Where to go for great brunch in Singapore? We headed to Belo Cafe at Upper Thomson for their grand breakfast, and here is YumzYumz’s brunch review.
We were given a choice for our eggs of either sunny side up, or scrambled. Sunny side up is definitely a mundane choice. But to gauge the basic skills of the cook, a simple scrambled eggs should be the simplest of test.
Plating was amazingly pleasing to the eyes, with a wide spectrum of colors on display.
Scrambled eggs were fluffy but slightly lacking of seasoning. But the various garnishes on top provided additional texture and flavour.
On of the best item on this dish was actually the simplest of things: their thick and dense slice of sour dough bread. It was almost meaty in texture, springy and subtle hints of flavour. Pairing it with the eggs was almost heavenly. (they do sell it their bread at $8 a loaf)
Next was the usual suspects of greasy hashbrown, 2 streaky bacon, 1 whole huge juicy and thick portobello mushroom, a bunch of tomatoes in a vine, and a large chicken sausage.
Finally, a very well mixed and dressed salad with sliced red radish, carrots, assortment of greens, and a tangy appetizing dressing.
With the huge quantity of items, and at $23 a plate (but just a tad on the expensive end), Belo Cafe’s Grand Breakfast was definitely good for 2 pax sharing. And with their top notch quality, it is definitely a recommended item.
