Located within Bishan Kim San Leng coffee shop, Ming Ji Chicken Rice (or Ming Kee Chicken Rice ^^) has been around for a long time and really famous around Singapore for their chilled chicken rice. Here is YumzYumz food review of Ming Ji Chicken Rice.
We got there around 11am on a weekend, and the queue was already 20 pax in line. It took around 15 quick minutes and it was our turn. The speed at which they cleared the queue was amazing. The customers before us were ordering in the 8 plates, 10 packets pattern, but the lightning movements of Ming Ji were obviously up to the task of satisfying everyone. On top of that, they were so polite and calm when conversing with everyone. Really awesome.
Nicely plated chicken and drizzled with their light fragrant sauce, each piece of steamed chicken was chilled firm chunky tender and moist. We always order the breast meat portion, as if the tough breast meat can be made nice, they cant go wrong with the other fatty parts. And they definitely didn’t dissapoint. So satisfying. ^^
Sadly, the rice cant be said the same. The fragrance was slightly subtle, while the firmness was slightly mushy. Not the best that we had.
On the side was their chili sauce and dark soy sauce. Chili sauce was way too watery, not too spicy, and definitely could be better like what Seng Heng Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice does.
Finally, the soup that they serve was really tasty, heavy in chicken flavour. Unlike many other chicken rice stalls that serve mundane bland soup, Ming Ji’s chicken soup was rich and deep with taste.
At $3.50 a plate, Ming Ji Chicken Rice definitely makes amazing chilled steamed chicken rice, but their rice and chili sauce are really a downer. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable meal and based on the crowd they draw in, they must are doing a fantastic job.
