In order to get a taste of this tasty plate of $3 chicken rice, you will need at least 30 to 40mins of spare time to join in the weekday lunch crowd. We were there at 11am on a weekday, and we only managed to place our order at 11.40am. Along the way, you tend to have thoughts of why are you wasting your time in a queue, and for just chicken rice. You WILL have your doubts.
You will start wondering why are there people who are willing to stand in queue for so long, just for a normal chicken rice.
As we got nearer to the stall, we noticed that the two guys who were taking orders for dine in or take away, packing the food, were SO diligent, they even brought the packed food to customers seated on the other side of the hawker centre. The uncle who was chopping the chicken, serving up soup, was moving so fast, we were sure he can’t be caught on a speed cam. Jk ^^.
So, the reason wasn’t them being slow. It was because most of the customers were ordering 8 packs of chicken rice, 7 packs, 10 packs! The minimum we heard, was 4 plates. So what exactly is their secret?? Nostalgia? Rice? Chicken? Chili sauce? Service?
We believe it is all of the above. Let’s break it down.
Most of the customers were greeted and probably not their first time there, suggesting they were recurring customers. Their rice was not soggy, nicely cooked, fragrant and grainy. Their boneless chicken was SO DAMN tender even for breast meat, sligth crisp of roasted chicken skin, and the awesome gravy.
Lastly, their chili sauce was SO AWESOME! You could have at least 3 packs of rice only, just with their intense, thick, spicy savoury chili sauce. You will be blown away with these combined.
And it is really worth mentioning that even with their crazy bee line of business, they were still so polite and efficient. Truly worth the wait!
