Long queue with many patrons ordered 4 to even 8 packets for their healthy and tasty sheng mian, YumzYumz visited Selerar Sheng Mian at Ang Mo Kio, and here is our review of it.
It took us about 30 minutes in the morning crowd before we got our hands on our order.
Each order was prepared individually and meticulously, and despite the good business, we were still met with courtesy and warmth.
Noodles were slightly thicker than the usual mee kia, which was most suitable for such soup based dish. It held the soup really well in every slurp, carrying all the essence with it right into our mouths. Ikan bilis were crunchy and savoury, providing the only crunchy texture. Fried shallots amplified the depth needed in terms of taste.
Pork slices were delicately tender and delectable. Minced pork were probably the defining ingredient that emphasized the sweetness of the soup. However, majority of the minced pork were lean, which was probably the reason why the soup wasn’t cloudy with bits of pork.
The single prawn was undoubtedly fresh and sweet, elevating the richeness and umami of the soup. And finally an egg which added accentuated the complexity of such simple yet amazing bowl of goodness.
Pricing starts at $3.50, followed by $4 and $5. We got the $4 version but honestly, it was just more noodles added.
There are two stalls selling sheng mian in this hawker centre, the other being De Ji Cooked Food, both offering varying sheng mian versions. Do give them a try and share with your friends on which you prefer. ^^
