Wanton noodles may be common, but nice wanton noodles are not as common as anyone thinks. Ah Zhen Wanton Mee at Bukit Timah is one that is somehow under rated. Friendly uncle auntie stall holders, they add the pleasant experience of hawker food.
At $3 a plate, you get acceptable charsiew slices. Not too dry, not too fatty, just nicely charred flavoured pork. Nothing much to shout out for its fried wanton, but it is nice to have it since most other wanton noodle stores don’t offer it at this price.
As inconspicuous as their plate wanton noodle may seem, their noodles are chewy, bouncy and well flavoured.
Sadly and ironically, the one thing that is in the name of the dish, their wantons, were sadly floating in the mediocre soup. Two to be exact. Fillings were almost non existent.
