Located at a coffee shop in Serangoon, Kim Heng Roasted Delights dishes out magnificently roasted poultries with such finesse, it draws a huge crowd on a daily basis. Here is YumzYumz’s food review of their array of delectable meat.
To save some effort on our part, we got all 5 types of meat at one go for 2 pax, which cost a whopping $26.40.
Crispy & Juicy Roasted Chicken
First off, it was the roasted chicken. The skin was crispy and right amount of oiliness, wrapping around tasty moist juicy tenderlicious white meat.
Tenderlicious Char Siew
This is the preeminent example of how char siew should be made. Slightly charred on the outside, with fatty and tender flesh. The amount of fats weren’t overwhleming, mixing well with the savoury juicy flesh. Sweetness and saltiness of the marinate penetrated nicely into the most inner flesh, creating an explosion of happiness in the mouth.
Crispy Roasted Pork Belly (Sio Bak)
Extremely crispy and savoury skin made to perfection, the fat to meat ratio was almost perfect. Crispy skin, juicy fats and tender savoury meat, this makes up a perfect combination of happiness in the mouth. Thinking back of joy while munching on this painstakingly made masterpiece does makes the salivary gland wet.
Perfect Roasted Duck
The skin had a slight crisp on the top and amazingly juicy on the bottom. It’s flesh was ABSOLUTELY tender and just the right amount of saltiness, encompassing the flavour of the duck.
Underwhelming Roasted Pork Ribs
Their pork ribs were slightly underwhelming compared to their char siew, sio bak, roasted chicken and roasted duck. It was slightly tough and difficult to tear away the flesh from the bone. It did however still faired really great in terms of taste.
Chicken Rice, Gravy Chili?
Their rice was made perfectly, grainy moist fluffy tasty and not too oily. Their chili was mundane and made nice, not too watery, spicy and slight added zing.
Their brown lush gravy sauce was so good, you could just have it alone with the rice. These sauce are usually really salty. But what Kim Heng created isn’t overtly salty, full bodied umami flavour, sweet and savoury.
Conclusion
For a plate of whichever meat you choose for a single serving, it ranges from $4 to $7 with rice. Not exactly what anyone should consider being expensive, but with its quality, it should even be considered affordable. With their friendly attitude and fantastic food, it was certainly worth the time queuing.
