Right below army market at Golden Mile Food Centre is a stall where foodies head to for their fix of wanton mee. Army market wanton mee is one name that we heard of, but in fact it is Wen Kang Ji Wanton Noodles. We head down to Golden Mile Food Centre for this wanton mee food review.
Beautifully plated with their gorgeously roasted char siew laid on top of bright and irresistibly looking noodles. Char siew were generously sliced with thick chunks, fat to lean ratio were evenly distributed, with the fats almost melting in our mouths. Each piece of char siew was tenderlicious, savoury and delectable, almost addictive. Noodles were thicker than the usual mee kia. From our observations, this is usually the kind of noodles that the popular stalls used. It has lesser alkaline taste or lye water in it, which makes it more enjoyable with the sauce mix. Sauce mix was rather runny and not heavy on pork lard. Mellow and smooth, it brought out the best in the noodles. Deep fried pork lard pieces weren’t fluffy and crispy as we like them to be, but were given in abundance and complimented the noodles nicely. Wantons were particularly tasty and accentuating, which were plump and enjoyable.
If you can, you got to have their chili to go along with. It was spicy and gave another dimension to the taste of the noodles.
We ordered the regular size which was $6, and sufficiently portioned. If you are feeling hungry, consider getting the jumbo size at $8, which we noticed that many of the other diners were getting.
Army market wanton mee Wen Kang Ji Wanton Noodle has one of the nicer char siew around with effusive noodles and briny wantons to go along. Definitely recommended.
