YumzYumz visited Ang Mo Kio Central Market & Food Centre and tried Zhou Ji wanton noodles, one of the many wanton noodle stalls in the hawker centre. Here is our food review of Zhou Ji wanton noodles.
Presented with simple plating and almost unappetizing char siew appearance, Zhou Ji’s wanton noodles didn’t exactly gave the best first impressions.
However upon diving into the noodles and wantons gave us a different perspective. It’s noodles were chewy, using the standard wanton noodle mee kia variant. The sauce mix was deep with shallot oil flavour, slightly oily and carrying hints of dried prawns. In the noodles department, it was really pleasing.
The same can’t be said of the char siew slices. They were dry, tough, and added probably just for having more color added to the dish. More efforts could have gone into improving their char siew.
Finally we reach the wantons within the bowl of soup. There were 3 pieces of wantons and each were sadly small, with minimally wrapped fillings. and the bright side, compared to Hong Chong Wanton Noodle , Zhou Ji Wanton Noodle’s wantons were slightly bigger and tastier.
At $3 a plate, Zhou Ji Wanton Noodles tasted quite acceptable, even with their under par char siew and wantons, but it is definitely a filling meal.
