Aburi-EN at Vivocity spots a rustic looking design with open kitchen concept, allowing diners to view all the fiery actions at the grill. YumzYumz tried out Aburi-En’s Australian wagyu and grilled eel item and this is our food review of it.

The Australian wagyu and grilled eel was served rather swiftly and in a tiny box, along with picked shibazuke and takuan, a bowl of standard miso soup but full of tofu, seaweed and 2 rather tiny clams.

There were 5 slices of grilled beef, smokey and intense in flavour, nicely seasoned and grilled to perfection. It was tender and not too oily, perfect combination with the soft fluffy sticky Japanese rice. The sauce was not overwhelming and complimented the protein perfectly.

As for the unagi, or eel, was grilled in the similar fashion, but bringing out the delicate flesh and not killing the eel a second round. The flesh was still firm on the chopsticks grip, yet melts in the mouth. As for the savoury thick sauce, similar to the beef, which most probably were the same sauce base, marries nicely with the delightful pearl rice.

However, at $25 per serving, the quantity was somewhat underwhelming. Fortunately for its top notched quality, it somewhat justifies its price tag.
