What to eat at Hougang Hainanese Village Centre? How about trying out some teochew fishball noodle from Yong Seng Teochew Fishball Noodle? Let’s find out from this food review of their fishball noodles.
We noticed that many patrons were ordering their soup version. But as usual, we got their dried version, so that we can have a comparison of their dried and soup on the sides.
There was a variety of ingredients provided. 2 fishballs that were bouncy and chewy, probably handmade. 1 meatball which was mundane and probably factory made, 1 mixed fishball type with chili peels and spring onion within, probably handmade, and some slices of fishcakes which had quite a bite to them.
Some slices of braised mushrooms at the top, with soft and fluffy minced pork. Finally a few slices of tender and nicely blanched pig liver.
Noodles were nicely blanched, not too soft not under. Sauce mix was somewhat simple, slightly acidic with their black vinegar. They weren’t overtly cooked, and their chili was on point and not too spicy.
However, the focus item was not found in the bowl, but rather in their soup. It was extraordinarily flavourful, not cloudy nor thick, It was light in consistency yet heavy in its taste, full of dried flounder flavour. It was potent and deep with richness.
Fried Beancurd Skin Dou Pi 炸豆皮卷
We got a side dish of deep fried beancurd skin, which came along with its own dipping sauce. Sauce was sweet with a sprinkle of peanut shavings at the top. The beancurd skin were oily, extremely crispy, and its sauce completed it with overwhelming satisfaction.
It cost $4 for a bowl of goody dry teochew fishball noodles, and $2.50 for the tapas of fried beancurd skin.
The noodles and ingredients were satisfying, especially the fishballs which felt really fresh and handmade. And more so of their awesome top notch soup. Hence, we highly recommend to get their soup base rather than their normal dry version.
The aunties and uncles at the stall were so friendly and delightful even with their brisky long line of customers. They knew all the regulars and their orders too. ^^
