Crispy, juicy fried chicken in Singapore, but not from KFC. At Waker Chicken, you get delicious Korean style fried chicken, almost comparable to KFC’s addictiveness. This is the review for what we tried when we visited Waker Chicken at Hougang’s outlet, Ci Yuan Hawker Centre.
At $14, you get 7 pieces of chicken, or rather, half a chicken. At $27, you get the whole chicken of 14 pieces. They have a few selection of flavours, and we tried 7 pieces of sweet spicy. The taste was indeed sweet, subtle presence of spiciness and each piece was dripping with the sauce.
Although every piece was coated generously with the sauce, the skin was not soggy in any way. In fact, it was so damn crispy and crunchy, you could hear Colonel Sanders gasping with excitement.
Under the crispy tasty skin, lies the juicy tender flesh, although sadly, they fell short in this department as it needed some salt to it. Not exactly bland as there was the sweet spicy sauce, but the chicken still needed more seasoning.
Indicated on their storefront, they have other outlets at Toa Payoh, Tampines, Siglap, and Kovan.
At $2 a piece, it is cheaper than KFC, which sells an a la carte piece at $3.80. In terms of sizing, Waker Chicken has slightly smaller pieces, but if anyone wants something different from the usual KFC, Waker Chicken is a great alternative.
