A stone throw away from Traditional Famous Prawn Mee 338, YumzYumz tried Yong Ji’s prawn noodles and lets find out if it is of any good.
Selling at $4 or $5 which is slightly more expensive than most hawkers, it could probably be a hidden gem. We got the $4 size.
Fish cakes were slightly thick, which either their chopping skills need honing or their are really generous. hehe
Placed on top were 3 halved prawns, which were quite huge and tasted crunchy. Topped with a generous sprinkle of fried shallots which enhanced the taste of every biteful.
Noodles were the usual, but sauce mix was somewhat unique yet familiar. We had this mixed feeling as it was nicely flavoured probably with the usual seasoning of soy sauce, pork lard, but lacking in any prawn broth presence, yet with a strong sweetness taste.
We tried their soup and to our surprise, it was oh so sweet! Its sweetness was almost dessert like, no wonder the noodle sauce mix had that taste. We could only guess that brown sugar was heavy handedly added, we could be wrong, but it definitely wasn’t the usual natural prawn sweetness.
Was it good? Not exactly according to our standards, but each to one’s opinion. Try it out and judge for yourselves.
