What to eat at Geylang? Perhaps some stinky smelly fermented tofu at Mini Star HK Fermented Beancurd. Let’s explore and review how stinky their tofu was.
Our order was freshly deep fried to a golden brown crisp, filling the air within this narrow and long joint with stinky smelly odour. It could easily be related to the stench you get when a garbage truck passes by.
As our order was placed in front of us, the stench was so overpowering that it smelt rotting and pungent.
However, once in our mouths, it tasted subtly sweet, kinda sourish and savoury. Inside was silky smooth yet the outside was crunchy and crispy. Deeping into their aesthetically pleasing sauce was delightful and taste elevating. Half of it was sweet while the other was spicy, while a pinch of pickled veggies on the side was nice too.
At $4 for 2 slabs of stinky tofu at Mini Star (HK) Fermented Beancurd was enjoyable and great snack if you can endure the initial stench.
