For our latest culinary expedition, we made our way to Pasir Ris to sample the prawn noodles at Prawnaholic. This prawn noodles food review showcases a modern take on this classic dish, with modern signage and innovative twists.
Upon placing our order, we were presented with a thick slice of marinated pork that had been beautifully blow torched to a caramelized state. The pork emitted an aromatic scent that was both porky and perfumed. In addition, we were served two gorgeously orange crunchy poached prawns and a large handmade meatball, all of which were savory and full-flavored with delectable textures. The dish was accompanied by a generous scoop of hae bee hiam, or spicy dried shrimp sambal, and wonderfully deep-fried pork lard, which paired perfectly with the al dente noodles, providing extra crunch and texture. While the dish was somewhat spicy, it was still manageable.
The crispy pork lard was fluffy yet crispy and not at all greasy, and it was an absolute delight to consume alongside the already generous bowl of goodness. However, the star of the show was undoubtedly the overwhelmingly fragrant prawn soup, which was both appetite-stimulating and elegant. It was the defining element of the dish and a clear display of the mastery of their craft and the laborious work that goes into it.
At $7, this hawker prawn noodle meal may be slightly pricey, but Prawnaholic has gone above and beyond by incorporating a plethora of delectable, homemade ingredients that make it worth every cent.
