Within the same hawker center as the populat Ah Wing Wanton Mee and among many other muslim stalls, we tried out Pondok Marina for this mee rebus food review.
Pondok Marina’s mee rebus gravy was thick and viscid, with strong and briny flavour. Noodles were well blanched, topped with fried shallots and coriander. With a squeeze of lime for the zesty taste, it married nicely with the freshly chopped green chili and must have dark soy sauce. Included in this huge bowl of mee rebus was a whole boiled egg too. Our pet peeve was the straight up raw bean sprouts thrown in the mix ubiquitously. A huge bunch of raw bean sprouts gave the whole dish a rather unsavoury and peculiar aftertaste. Perhaps it served well in some diner’s palate, but definitely not ours. Begedil was moist and full boided flavour, and they name their begedil as potato cutlet, which comes at $1 a piece.
For their mee rebus, damage cost was $3.50, which we felt was a huge bowl and extremely filling. But the deal breaker for us was definitely their raw bean sprouts. And a $1 for a normal sized begedil was alittle pricey.
If you like raw bean sprouts with your mee rebus, Pondok Marina at Empress Market would suite you just fine.
