Served on a gigantic plate were 1 pork katsu, 3 pork sausages, some pork shabu-shabu, 3 tori karaage, shredded cabbage, pickles, rice and of course curry.
The pork katsu was thick, tender but packs a meaty punch in every bite. Chicken karaages were juicy and crispy. It was served with a scope of seasoned mayonnaise on top that added an additional layer of flavour. A bunch of soft and tender pork shabu-shabu was thrown in together with some sweet and savoury sauce. The 3 pork sausages with thick and juicy, bursting with jucies and flavour. Shreded cabbage were drizzled over with some sweet dressing, and the rice was mushy and almost tasteless.
With all the sauces and seasoning on the proteins, they were nothing but addtional calories, for the defining ingredient was still their curry. It was deep, full bodied, thick and slushy. You can select how many “flames”of spiciness you would like, from 1 up to 5. We selected 1 to give it a try, and it was enough for us, as it was quite spicy. Mixed it together with their rich curry and it was a gastronomic treat.
At $26.80 for a mountain monster curry at Monster Curry, which serves 2 pax, it was definitely worth every calories and cents. It had not 1 or 2 mains, but 4 deliciously prepared meat with their generous and lusciously prepared curry.
To add on, the experience we had at Monster Curry was further enhanced with their amazing customer service. In particular, a manager named Kah Sheng who was attentive, polite, and ever ready to assist the customers in the restaurant. He was swift in his movements, assisted customers’ needs, and showed respect and guided his staff on what he needs. If a manager is able to command his staff with such flair and yet orchestrate the restaurant operations smoothly, we believe this is the showing of great management, and worth a shoutout here. Good job!
