Smacked right in the middle of Bishan Park, Grub offers some of the nicest all day breakfast, and offering nice and quiet ambience. YumzYumz gave Grub a visit on a hot sunny Sunday and this is our food review of their Mentaiko Fries.

A generous splash of creamy thick luscious mentaiko sauce was on the chunky bowl of french fries, and an additional mini saucer with extra sauce. Fries were nicely fried, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, it went hand in hand with the mentaiko sauce with wonderous harmony. Every bite had mentaiko bursting in our mouth.

But, is it mentaiko or tarako? For the uninitiated, tarako is usually mistaken for mentaiko for how similar they both are.

Tarako looks beige or almost pinkish, which are the roe of Alaskan pollock fish, and is plain and salted.

Mentaiko on the other hand is a sack of salted cod roe, and has a strong flavour profile.

Nevertheless, mentaiko is marinated tarako. Is it important to know? Not really, as long it taste great right? ^^

Finally, a handful of seaweed was place on top to add texture and flavour to this satisfying side dish.

At $6 for a bowl of crispy fries topped with mentaiko mayo and nori seaweed, it is definitely a recommended item to order at Grub.
