Back in 2002, McCrispy disappeared and Singaporeans were left disappointed. Now amid COVID-19, McDonald’s have brought it back and with much fan fare, looking for its long awaited return.
Honestly, we couldn’t remember how it tasted back then. Hence, we have to dive right into it now with fresh minds and opinions and not compare.
Chicken McCrispy Feast
Everything looked glittery golden brown and no over fried parts. Whole chicken thigh and drumstick were nicely prepared like any items McDonalds churns out. It’s crispy appearance is enough to make our saliva glands enter overdrive mode. That was appearance.
Taste wise, was somewhat entering familiar territory. It was exactly what we get from a McSpicy patty, and the only difference was the presence of actual chicken bones. Flesh was EXTREMELY tender, skin was AMAZINGLY crispy and spicy, same as the McSpicy. And heck, it even has the same fatty gooey layer beneath its skin, same as the McSpicy.
For 2 pieces of chicken McCrispy, a drink and fries, it cost $9.
We got the promotional meal of Chicken McCrispy feast which consist of a Blueberry Cream Cheese Pie, which cost $10.95.
Blueberry Cream Cheese Pie
McDonalds really knows how to make their pie great. Over the years, they have created quite a number of unique flavours and this round, it is blueberry cream cheese.
It was sweet and berrilicious, creamy and sweet from the cream cheese. With its standard crispy crust, it was delicious and tasted heavenly.
It paired nicely with the spicy McCrispy too. After the heat from the chicken, some sweet dessert definitely extinguished the heat and made the world spin again.
Honestly, the pie was really awesome. It cost $1.95 on its own.
Conclusion
It is undeniably tasty and fresh to have a new item to order besides the usual burgers from the golden arches. It is also unavoidable to compare it to the chicken empire of KFC (nah, not Jollibee, Popeyes or Texas Chicken. Those are not worthy for comparison LOL). KFC’s chicken are much richer in terms of taste due to their spices. Both McDonalds and KFC chicken are extremely oily, which is a given. Both are crispy which gives the pleasure of chowing down and taking in all the calories.
And if given a choice of either one, we will without a doubt go with KFC’s finger licking good chicken. Or maybe even local hawker versions will be great too, such as Waker Chicken. ^^
