Craving for some authentic hakka style minced pork noodles, we were introduced to Hakka Taste for their bak chor mee for this noodles food review.
Hakka Taste’s noodles were not the usual mee kia, but slightly thicker and extra springy. The noodles held on to the braised minced pork’s sauce really well. The braised sauce was rather thick and greasy, providing the needed sheen and coating for the noodles. It was savoury and rich. Minced pork were soft and fluffy, deeply infused with all the goodness from the sauce. However there was a lack in flavour depth, almost one dimensional.
Thankfully their bowl of soup saved them, for their meat balls and tau kee were incredibly exceptional. Meat balls were light yet dense, delectable and effusive to the palate. It had a subtle pepperish taste while emitting its sweet porky taste. Next was their tau kee, which had fish paste wrapped within. Springy on every bite, it was slightly salty but undoubtedly held a complexity and depth to its very inner layer.
Quantity was ample and filling for both its noodles and ingredients all round.
Priced at $5.30 for the whole set of hakka style minced pork noodles, along with their soup of tau kee and meatballs. Hakka Taste is definitely an excellent choice for any day of the week.
