Spotting a classy and attractive ambience at Vivocity, Shin Kushiya is one of the many Japanese cuisine at the mall. We are trying out their gyu kushi don for this food review.
Gyu kushi don, or beef skewers rice bowl, came in a simplistic plating almost resembling a bento anyone can get at a supermarket or takeaway stalls. However, each piece of meat was beautifully crafted. There were 2 alluring black angus ribeye, tenderlicious and smokey, charred and caramelized at all the right places and amount. Needed alittle extra seasoning though. Next were 2 chunky gyu karubi, or boneless short rib beef skewers, tasty and although not as juicy and rich as the black angus, but still yummilicious. Next were 3 rolls of gyu enoki maki, or enoki mushrooms wrapped with beef, had a good ratio of fats, caramalizing and soaking the mushrooms, juicy and mouthful. Finally, 2 thick slices of tamago yaki and a stalk of broccoli wtih pickles, which were nice to have as sides.
The amount of rice at the bottom was ample, not too much but sufficient to savour the top quality beef items.
At $19.80 a serving, it was somewhat pricey with its quantity. But in terms of quality, Shin Kushiya’s beef skewers rice bowl definitely delivered.
