Instead of the usual beef rice bowls or curry at SUKIYA, we tried out their promotional item of grated daikon and ponzu sauce with their beef rice bowl in this food review.
Listed on their menu as freshly grated daikon with ponzu sauce, made of shoyu, dashi, yuzu citrus juice. The grated daikon, or radish, was subtly sweet, light and fluffy. Ponzu sauce added on it was savoury, tangy and refreshingly sweet. Mixing it into SUKIYA’s beef rice bowl was, somewhat of a confusion, perhaps a blurring of what a beef rice bowl should be.
The tanginess from the ponzu sauce overwhelmed what beefy goodness the beef held, and the sandy texture from the grated daikon was alittle perplexing when consumed with the rice. Perhaps not what we are used to.
Priced similarly to their other rice bowl items,
S : $5.50, M : $6.20, XM : $8.20, L : $8.20 , XL : $10.20
We had the medium portion, rice and beef were amply given for what we deem to be appropriate.
Overall, it was a refreshing item that we usually would not get in Singapore’s local food, but SUKIYA’s gyudon with daikon and ponzu was certainly a nice item to have for a change.
