Northerners, rejoice! Located in the modern Yishun Park Hawker Centre, lies a gem – 51 Noodle House, that dishes out delectable bowls of Fusion Bak Chor Mee.

If you’re expecting a typical bowl of soup or dry mee pok / mee kia with blanched minced meat and the usual suspects, you will be in for a surprise!

We ordered the Braised Pork Noodles ($6.50) which comes with their signature braised pork belly (ala Japanese Charshu) with a soft boiled egg, minced meat with your choice of starch. You can choose from Mee Pok, Mee Kia, Kuey Teow or authentic Japanese udon (additional $1.20 top-up). Next comes the choice of seasoning, sambal, black vinegar, ketchup and dark soya sauce. Lettuce and a few pieces of pork lard are then added to give the dish a bit of colour and crunch.

We highly recommend going for the udon as it goes very well with black soya sauce and black vinegar (sorry no chilli for me). The sauces, coupled with the runny egg, melds to form a gravy, bursting with umami. This makes slurping down the udon extra shiok!

The udon was cooked al dente, while the soft boiled egg was runny and did not disappoint. However, the usual portion of braised pork belly is somewhat disappointing and we usually add on another portion at $2.00. It’s worth it!

We ordered via FoodPanda and the noodles were still perfectly good by the time it arrived! Do try it!
