Simple yet intricately tasty, Potong Pasir King Specialist Carrot Cake at Ang Mo Kio was certainly one of the better char kway teow we had, and here is our char kway teow food review of it.
Sharing a single corner stall with 老吴記 Mutton Soup, Potong Pasir King Specialist Carrot Cake’s char kway teow had a deep, charring and aromatic scent. It is a wonder why their stall name is carrot cake alone, as their char kway teow was amazing!
Not overtly greasy, it was the drier version compared to other which are usually gooey and clumpy. Pork lard was in abundance, enveloping the nicely charred tiny bits in every mouthful. Egg that was stir fried fabulously with garlic and tossed on hot pan along with the kway teow and noodles, with subtle spicy chili sauce. Our taste buds were begging for more as we savoured every bit of it.
Cockles were tiny but generously given, crunchy and umami filled. Chinese sausage were fragrant, not oily and moderately caramalized to get its fats out, mixing with the other lips smacking stuff. They were sliced thinly, as were their fish cakes to get the even stir fried outcome as the noodles.
Noodles were not sweet, more towards the savoury specturm. But the charring aroma was the top layer of flavour that we got. Simply indulging.
It was priced at $3 / $4 / $5.
At such pricing and quality, Potong Pasir King Specialist Carrot Cake is definitely a gem for all char kway teow fans. Head down to Ang Mo Kio for a taste of it. Recommended!
