Located deep within the Balestier and Whampoa area, Wheeler’s Yard is camouflaged among the other warehouse-liked buildings, with a space almost like an aircraft hanger. We chanced upon this lovely cafe that offers coffee and traditional pub offerings, retro-fitted with bicycle themed warehouse turned cafe. YumzYumz reviewed their Fish & Chips and here is our food review of it.
It came as a huge slab of battered fish, fried to a golden brown. It’s crust was made with beer batter, crispy and had a subtle savouriness to it. Enveloped within was flaky and tasted fresh red snapper. It wasn’t overtly oily nor dry, certainly one which we could say was properly and acceptably made fish and chips.
The accompanying fries were wedges which were mushy on the inside and crispy on the outside.
A mini jar of homemade tar tar sauce came on the side, which complimented the battered fish really well. Not that we could taste it was homemade, as it was stated in their menu, but it tasted like how any tartar sauce should be.
Just to note, there is an option to upgrade the fries to truffle fries at $4.
At $19.90 for an order of battered fish and chips at Wheeler’s Yard, it was definitely satisfactory and yummilicious.
