Located in the Seletar area, Soek Seng cafe sits right on the fringes of Seletar Airport, you either drive or cycle. The cafe was packed with cyclists when we got there, some with a pint of Guiness or beer or some sort. Really cool place to chill. But how was the food?
Straight to the point, the food was appalling. And for this post, it is about their fish and chips. At $11.80, it is almost double the price of other places, so it must have something special to it. At least that was our guess.
Sadly, it was anything but special. The fish was at most decent, slightly mushy on the inside, tasted like any frozen commercial breaded fish you can find in supermarkets. The tartar sauce was diluted and almost lost its taste if it had any in the first place.
The french fries were of course commercial grade, nothing out of the blue.
On the sides were some bland coleslaw and slices carrots, cucumbers, lettuce.
Were these worth $11.80? Not by any chance.
However, the service was good as they were all really very friendly and polite. The staff/owners were all old folks except for the waiter. They must be doing a good job at hospitality as their food really isn’t worth the trip down. Well maybe it’s just a watering hole, with these food on the menu as snacks, but definitely not worth the trip down as your mains.
