Japanese curry rice from the famous chain stall of SUKIYA, Gyudon, YumzYumz tried out their deluxe curry rice item which consisted of fried chicken and their signature beef.
Since having their presence in Singapore, we have heard stories of long queues even during the pandemic. No surprises as we approached their outlet at Novena, where we waited for almost 30minutes for our table.
Comparing to what we had in Japan, when travelling was allowed, the taste of their curry was somewhat different.
Perhaps catering to the local taste, its curry in Singapore tasted slightly more spicy, compared to a sweeter version we had back then.
Nevertheless, the curry was thick and tasty, and not giving the powdery and granular feel you get with some other curry variation, such as fish head curry.
Beef strips were sweet and tender, packs an intensifying after taste. Coupled with crunchy translucent sweet onion slices, it is an ultimate combination with their fluffy short grain rice and alluring creamy curry.
For a deluxe order, we got some crispy and juicy chicken kaarage, or deep fried chicken chunks.
Finally, a half boiled egg on the side, or you could simply add it into the curry for a slurry of texture and taste.
Their pricing goes at small for $12.30, medium for $12.90, and large for$14.80. We got the medium sized, and frankly, it was a huge bowl.
Fluffy rice, sweet and tasty beef, juicy chicken chunks, and an appetite stimulating curry concoction, no wonder they command such crowds and a successful chain of shops.
