Kelim Dakdoritang’s Dakhanmari: A Must-Try Korean Clear Chicken Stew

Singapore’s food scene is a never-ending adventure, and if you’re anything like me, you’re always on the hunt for that next unforgettable dish. Well, buckle up, buttercup, because I just found a gem that’s going to knock your socks off: Dakhanmari at Kelim Dakdoritang in the charming neighbourhood of Serangoon Gardens. Forget everything you thought you knew about chicken stew because this Korean clear chicken stew is about to redefine your comfort food game!

What Makes This Korean Clear Chicken Stew So Special?

If you’re new to the world of Korean cuisine, you might be wondering what “Dakhanmari” even means. Simply put, it’s a traditional Korean clear chicken stew, and Kelim Dakdoritang does it justice like no other. We went for the regular size ($39.90), and let me tell you, “regular” is an understatement! This massive pot arrived, brimming with what looked like an entire chicken, generously surrounded by an army of fresh leeks, chewy rice cakes, and tender potatoes. But the real star of the show, for us garlic lovers, was the mountain of minced garlic – a glorious sight to behold!

The soup, initially clear and inviting, slowly transformed as it simmered away. All those beautiful ingredients, especially that glorious garlic, worked their magic, thickening the broth into a rich, comforting, and incredibly flavourful concoction. It was garlicky, yes (and we absolutely adored it!), but also wonderfully savoury and deeply satisfying. Each spoonful was a warm hug, perfect for chasing away any blues. And the chicken? Oh, the chicken! It was fall-off-the-bone tender, having soaked up all that amazing garlicky goodness from the simmering broth. Every bite was infused with awesome seasoning, making it an absolute delight. We even added some ramyeon into the pot for an extra $3.90, letting those springy noodles soak up all that incredible broth – highly recommended for an even more satisfying slurp! This isn’t just soup; it’s an experience.

Don’t Forget the Korean Fried Chicken!

Now, you can’t go to a Korean restaurant and not indulge in some Korean Fried Chicken, right? It’s practically a sin! To complement our magnificent Dakhanmari, we decided to try their 3 flavours of Korean fried chicken ($22.90 for 12 pieces). And boy, are we glad we did! This side dish was just as impressive as the main event. Each piece was a masterclass in texture – perfectly crunchy on the outside, yielding to juicy, tender chicken within.

We got to sample three distinct flavours: a fiery spicy one that packed a delightful punch, a perfectly balanced salty one that hit all the right savoury notes, and a wonderfully sweet one that provided a fantastic contrast. All three were, in a word, damn good. Seriously, if you’re a fan of Korean fried chicken (and who isn’t?), this is an absolute must-have. It’s highly recommended and easily some of the best Korean fried chicken we’ve had in a while.

Excellent Service at This Serangoon Gardens Gem

Beyond the incredible food, the service at Kelim Dakdoritang was top-notch. From the moment we walked in, the staff were quick, friendly, and incredibly helpful. They were proactive, assisting us with the stove settings for our Dakhanmari and ensuring our drinks were always topped up. Good service truly elevates a dining experience, and the team at Kelim Dakdoritang certainly made ours enjoyable and seamless.

In conclusion, if you’re looking for a hearty, comforting, and flavour-packed meal, look no further than Kelim Dakdoritang in Serangoon Gardens. Their Dakhanmari, the Korean clear chicken stew, is a definite winner, and their Korean fried chicken is the perfect companion. Get ready for a garlicky, delicious adventure!
