While famous for its flaming display of ramen showmanship, YumzYumz visited Menbaka and tried out their cha shu croquette. This is our food review of its chashu croquette.

Golden fried mashed potatoes with panko crumbs, Menbaka’s menu states that their version is a cha chu croquette. So we envisioned the mashed potatoes to be enveloping some tenderlicious cha shu within or somewhat filled with cha chu. Yummy!

Sadly, the amount of cha shu was almost non existent when we bite into our croquettes. There were at most bits and tiny fragments of possibly cha chu presence. The crust was indeed crunchy with every bite, mashed potatoes were creamy and worked with the crust in synergy.

On the sides we got a saucer with wasabi mayonnaise dipping sauce, and it was a delight to add to the equation of crusty and creamy.

At $5.90 for 3 palm sized croquettes, they were reasonably sized and priced, although they should not call it cha chu croquettes, but rather “hints of cha chu” croquettes.
