Where to find good porridge in Bukit Timah market? How about Zhou Pin 粥品’s porridge? We find out how their century egg pork porridge faired in this food review.
Silky yet full bodied, Zhou Pin’s porridge tasted subtly savoury and had a varied texture. Delicate and effusive, the resultant congee was memorable and appetite stimulating. The fried shallots, chopped spring onions and white pepper elevated its flavour and taste.
Amount of chopped century egg bits were ample and sufficient to have its pungent taste infuse into the porridge. Pork slices were ample in thickness, tasty with simplistic marination. Part of a youtiao was added into the mix, and our pet peeve was perhaps it wasn’t entirely a full youtiao. More like 3/4 of a youtiao, as if a quarter of it was munched off.
Nevertheless, it was a harmoniously and laboriously created bowl of comforting porridge. The auntie was really friendly and kid, reminding every customer to be careful of the hot bowl.
At $3 for a bowl of century egg pork porridge, Zhou Pin’s porridge was satisfying and filling, definitely one we would recommend.
