What to eat at Old World Fried Porridge besides their fried porridge? YumzYumz tried out their braised pork knuckles, or pig trotters. Let’s find out what our food review is on this.
We were given a huge chunky slab of pork knuckles, swimming in a pond of dark gravy soup. A large portion of the knuckle was made up of gooey fatty parts, extremely soft and tender. Some may think it is freaking full of collagen, but in reality, it was just darn fattening. The lean portion falls off the bone easily, was tender and almost melts in the mouth.
Gravy wasn’t as luscious as it seemed, for it was light in consistency. Flavour was just nice with the dark soy sauce savouriness and depth. Wasn’t as caramalized and thick as Yong Ji, but still quite acceptable.
At $5 a bowl, it was quite a meal for 1 pax and worth its buck.
Deep Fried Large Intestine
We had a side order of deep fried large intestines, at $6 for a small bowl of it. It’s appearance seemed like fried fritters (you tiao), its texture was slightly crispy on the edges, but tough chewy as a whole, and really oily. Its taste was extremely strong, subjective to each preference though. After a few pieces, each of us give up. Perhaps not to our palates.
In summary, Old World’s pig trotters were scrumptious and good for any day, but its deep fried large intestines were good for a try but probably would not reorder the next round.
