One of the better known stalls in Singapore for their braised duck rice, Liang Zhao Ji 梁照记 has been around for decades, and hopefully many more decades to come.
Located at Whampoa Food Centre, Liang Zhao Ji was previously listed in Singapore Michelin Bib Gourmand 2017 and 2016. However, they were left out in subsequent years.
Queuing for their famous braised duck rice is somewhat of a mental challenge, as the customers infront of us were ordering in multiple packs of 6, 10 and even 20 packs.
We got our fix of their braised duck rice, and we were definitely not dissapointed.
The duck flesh were not overtly tender, retaining a degree of bite to it and its mellow dark soy sauce flavour. Its skin were gelatin-like and had a touch of elegance to it.
Its rice was rich and potently flavourful, every grain was infused deeply with its rich duck flavour and fat.
A healthy pour of their thick and alluring gravy heightened the flavour of its rice and yummilicious tender duck.
On the side was a saucer of their sweet chilli, along with deep sambal. It went marvelously with the rest of the dish.
At $4 a plate of history rich and delicately prepared braised duck, it is without a doubt one of the better hawker dish you will get, and won’t mind having it on a daily basis.
