YumzYumz gave Bizen Okayama Wagyu Steakhouse’s Chinese New Year “Promotional” item a try and this is what our review of it. It consist of a wagyu steak (250g), a confit salmon with citrus tomato salsa, two side dishes which we chose broccoli and coleslaw, and two chawanmushi, at $59.90 (with GST at $64.09, and no service charge)

    How was the Wagyu Steak?

The 250g wagyu steak was perfectly cooked at medium. The outer crust was savoury, nicely charred, and so full of flavour. The inside was the right doneness, and tenderlicious. Although unintended, the juice from the steak was so yummy, it blended really well with the coleslaw, adding another layer of flavour.

    How was the Confit Salmon?

So what is confit? We Googled this and the simple explanation is “Confit is a preservation technique to help you prep ahead to build a well-stocked pantry, lower cooking time for French-inspired meals at home, and allow you to enjoy fresh flavors even when a vegetable is not in season.”

Simply put, it was a huge slab of salmon sashimi, and it was a pleasure slicing it into chunks and slowly savouring every bite. Pairing it with the citrus tomato salsa heightened the salmon flavour and every bite became a party in the mouth.

How were the sides and Chawanmushi?

The steamed broccoli were cooked just right, although it could add alittle salt as it was bland. The coleslaw was what it was supposed to be, although the juice from the wagyu steak made it really delicious. The chawanmushi was flavourful and full of ingredients in it.

    Was it worth the price?

After the individual elements breakdown, what do we think of it? At $64, it is meant for two pax sharing, and it could do better with a larger portion. Even though the steak and salmon were considered premium items, they could do better by offering another two sides, so as to satisfy both sharing parties. In terms of taste, it was really yummilicious, but portion was against price, it wasn’t the best deal.
