We love begedils, or fried potato patties at nasi padang stalls. But have you seen or tried gigantic begedils? YumzYumz found this nasi padang stall at Harbour Front Kopitiam and can’t resist the urge to give it a try.
There were two versions; beef or chicken fillings, and we chose beef for a try. Deep fried to a golden brown, it came along with some shredded carrots and cabbage, compressed rice cubes and a sachet of spicy black sauce or Sambal Kicap.
It was essentially nicely spiced seasoned mashed potatoes, enveloping sweet and tender minced beef. That probably sums it up. ^^. And the mashed potatoes were slightly on the dry side.
It was almost like a rice dumpling, or nyonya rice dumpling 娘惹粽. The difference was mashed potatoes for sticky rice, and tender minced beef for sweet pork.
Was it worth its price of $5.80? Probably not, but it was worth a try.
