Crispy, spicy, delightfully satisfying, YumzYumz headed down to Lai Huat Seafood Restaurant at Horne Rd, right opposite Jalan Besar Sports Centre and tried out their famous balachan fish.
Lai Huat Seafood Restaurant has been around for decades and although there has been quite a few other outlets with similar naming, this particular outlet is the original and authentic Lai Huat. With their unique and delectable sambal balachan chilli, it seems they haven’t lose their touch and the heavy handed chili toppings still retains its crazily addictive yet sinful recipe.
The huge pomfret deep fried to a golden shine, extremely crispy, topped generously with their glorious balachan infused chili mix, be it garlic or shallots or whatever goodness went into it, we were damn sure it was worth every calories we were putting on with this dish.

Even though the fish was deep fried (probably killed twice), its flesh was still flaky and moist. It came with some lettuce at the bottom, and wrapping some chili and fish with the greens tasted refreshing and heavenly. ^^
For such an amazing and legendary dish, it cost $45 a plate. And do note that different sizes of fish are priced differently. So do remember to ask (don’t worry, they will be informing you how much it cost before they enter your order).
