Juicy and meaty pork ribs with steamy rice and spicy dark soy sauce. Let’s dive into this hot favourite stall at Teck Ghee Market and find out what makes them tick.

Eng Kee Bak Kut Teh or Yong Ji Bak Kut Teh’s bak kut or pork ribs, were fleshy with tons of meat with good proportion of fats, tenderlicious and ALMOST falling off its bone. It had the pepperish taste from the soup but not too over powering.

Soup was mildly pepperish but still packs a punch to our taste buds, neither was it oily. In fact it was somewhat refreshing and gives a pleasant lingering after taste. It could perhaps be described more accurately as intense yet mellow.

We love to have our bak kut with dark soy sauce and chili padis, all in one moutful. So ridiculously yummy. But of course it depends on how tender the meat, which in this case, was absolutely spot on.

Bak kut teh may be slightly on the pricer spectrum of hawker food, but if it is done well, it is really worth the price and calories. Once in a while treat. ^^

Priced at $6.50 a bowl, and $0.50 for rice, $7 for such a meal with quality and made with finesse, no wonder queues starts even before they open for business.
