Stumbled across TONITO at Jewel and so YumzYumz decided to try out what they have to offer, and here we have, their arroz con pollo, or rather “rice with chicken” in Spanish.
This Latin American chicken rice was definitely not what we Singaporeans are used to, especially at $24 a pop.
But the quality was something really magnificent. First off, chicken was juicy and tender, thoroughly infused with whatever goody spice they had marinated in. Exterior was gorgeously caramelized with beautifully charred and crispy parts, although slightly greasy.
On top was a splash of pesto sauce to go harmoniously with the grilled chicken, bringing in depth and extra layer of flavour.
At the bottom was a generous serving of Mexican rice. Gooey and intense flavour, almost like a perfectly cooked risotto. It had an incredibly strong spice taste, which probably won’t suit those with weaker palate.
Finally, a scatter of crispy capers, fresh sweet onions and piquillo peppers to deliver the crunchy texture needed.
We were served a saucer of chili sauce, a green and red sauce. As uninitiated as we were, were were told that both were different habanero chilli sauces, and both are extremely spicy.
Come on, we CAN take our heat. And so we thought….
If you think chili padis are spicy, you gotta try habanero chilis. As tiny bit as it may seem, it pack a monstrous punch, sending us sweating away. It was extremely intense, intriguing and shiok!
It is a kids friendly restaurant with TV monitors having cartoons on to keep the kids occupied while the adults empty their pockets enjoy their food.
Service was amazing, with the head chef greeting customers and crew members moving swiftly and showing warmth to everyone. Just awesome.
