What to eat at Jewel? How about trying out Tai Er? With over 300 over outlets in China, it has become a recognized brand. Opening their outlet in Jewel Changi Airport, we tried out their Abalone and Shrimp in Spicy Sauce in this food review.

As we observed our surroundings, on every table in a packed weekend lunch crowd was this small bowl of reddish dish with skewers. It was without a doubt that we need to give it a try. At $12 a pop, it had gotta be great. Sign… it was somewhat dissapointing. Nothing mind-blowing about it, except an over priced mediocre appetizer.

It’s sauce was greasy, spicy, peppery and served cold. In it were 8 skewers of sliced abalone and perfectly cooked shrimps. Abalone were ample and chewy, while the shrimps were crunchy and fresh. Additionally, there were slices of crunchy lotus root to add texture and volume to this cold side dish.

Tai Er’s cold side dish of Abalone and Shrimp in Spicy Sauce was greasy, underwhelmingly satisfying, and not something we would recommend.
