Where to get nice abacus yam balls, or 算盘子? YumzYumz tried out Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies’ abacus yam balls and here is our food review.
A complex mixture of texture and fragrance, their abacus yam balls were a floral display of a variety of ingredients.
Each yam ball was squeeshy, gooey, yet firm to the bite, and covered in a layer of glossy oil. Complimenting these gloriously made yam balls were tiny chunks of black fungus, mushrooms, fried shallots, peanuts, dried shrimps and chopped spring onions. The fragrance of dried shrimps was particularly accentuating and intense. Lastly, their chili sauce worked harmoniously with the concert of ingredients, with mild spiciness and subtle tanginess.
At $4 an order, Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies’ Abacus Yam Ball 算盘子 is good for any time of the day, with such elaborate taste, texture and satisfaction.
