Opting for the more economical $5 serving, we were greeted with a heaping portion that seemed promising at first glance. The prawns, although not at their peak freshness, managed to hold their own, offering a semblance of sea bounty. Meanwhile, the chili, thick and fiery, promised an exciting journey for our palates.

Unfortunately, the dish fell short of capturing the essence of a classic fried Hokkien prawn mee, with the absence of wok hei and the richness of prawn broth noticeably diminishing the experience. Nevertheless, the deep-fried lard was a delightful discovery, proving that even in disappointment, there are moments of joy to be savoured.
